Someone at Cal Berkeley did a paper on blushing. He concluded that blushing was caused by suppressed sexual enegy. In this case, he would be sexally attracted to the little girl, but that is not something you want his mom to know.

Because its embarrassing. Would you want your mom to come up to you when you were talking to your boyfriend and say ';Is that any way to talk to your little boyfriend?'; Ah-huh, that's what I thought.
As he is being chastised (because he said something not polite) he is embarrased to be corrected, especially by the person who knows him the best.
